The San Francisco State University Department of Public Health is seeking a part-time temporary student assistant to help with preparation for a reaccreditation review. This position reports to the Department Chair for the Department of Public Health. Responsibilities include assembling a resource file of required documents, reviewing and formatting documents to ensure quality and consistency, proofreading the self-study narrative for internal consistency, cohesion and grammar/mechanics, and other related duties as assigned. This position will coordinate with the Department Chair, department Executive Accreditation Committee and department faculty to compile all documents in a timely manner.

Qualifications

• Current active & attending MPH student
• Prior experience in accreditation strongly preferred/desired
• Advanced verbal and (graduate level) written English skills required.
• Detailed oriented with good analytical abilities
• Able to organize multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks
• Must work both independent of supervision and with team to adhere to deadlines without prompting

Duties

• Work with faculty to ensure the development and implementation of program content to meet accreditation standards.
• Work closely with the Department Chair and Executive Accreditation Committee to create reports, collect data, etc. 
• Provide to faculty the survey data as requested
• Update and confirm program materials for the department for accreditation compliance.
• Sit in on Executive Accreditation Committee meetings    
• Collect and summarize department level data 

Technical Skills

• Excellent keyboarding skills
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
• Advanced knowledge of Box (Cloud Storage)

Interpersonal Skills/Expectations

• Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure own behavior and the behavior of others are consistent with these standards and aligned with the values of the university.
• Be able to build and establish positive working relationships with the Executive Accreditation Committee, faculty, university staff, and students (as needed).
• Meet the needs of the Executive Accreditation Committee, faculty and university staff, and students (as needed), by anticipating, understanding, and responding even when that need is not clearly conveyed.
• Feel comfortable working cooperatively and effectively with other departments on campus as well as immediate coworkers and students to help resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance department accreditation effectiveness.
• Know how to set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details/data/information/activities.
• Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations to the Executive Accreditation Committee.

The salary will be $21 per hour, and time base is 20 hours per week. Start date is ASAP.

We are seeking highly motivated, compassionate, and energetic summer interns to help lead a Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) program with 6 to 8 teens in the Richmond/San Pablo area as part of the 2024 UCSF-UC Berkeley YPAR Summer Intern Program. With your guidance, the YPAR students will spearhead a research project related to ongoing health research at the UCSF Clear Lab. This full-time program consists of didactics, field trips to different research labs, hands-on fieldwork experience, and personalized career development with teens (ages 14 – 17) living in Richmond and the surrounding area.

Expectations

• Attending the full three-week orientation  
• Availability from Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., throughout the entire 12-week program starting May 22 to August 14, 2024. Up to 1-week of off-time is allowable as long as discussed prior to the start of program. We expect interns to be available during these times, with final work schedule to come. 
• Must have a valid Driver's License and clean driving record. In this position, you will be responsible for the pickup and transportation of YPAR students throughout the program as needed. Leads are expected to be well-organized and communicate frequently to students the lesson plans and expectations of each day 
• Proactively preparing and reading lessons and activities 
• Researching appropriate websites and resources to support the project
