Community Nutrition Volunteer Coordinator VISTA
This contract position supports the development of the volunteer program by engaging and building relationships with community members, agency partners, and community-based organizations to promote volunteer opportunities, recruit volunteers, and enhance program framework. Under the direction of the Nutrition Education Manager, you will take lead and support volunteers at outreach event activities across San Mateo County and Palo Alto aimed to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve. This AmeriCorps VISTA position provides a $1515.92 biweekly stipend (set to increase in July 2024) and is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain or expand their nonprofit work experience.
Program eligibility and requirements:

Internships
The San Francisco State University Department of Public Health is seeking a part-time temporary student assistant to help with preparation for a reaccreditation review. This position reports to the Department Chair for the Department of Public Health. Responsibilities include assembling a resource file of required documents, reviewing and formatting documents to ensure quality and consistency, proofreading the self-study narrative for internal consistency, cohesion and grammar/mechanics, and other related duties as assigned. This position will coordinate with the Department Chair, department Executive Accreditation Committee and department faculty to compile all documents in a timely manner.
Qualifications
- Current active & attending MPH student
- Prior experience in accreditation strongly preferred/desired
- Advanced verbal and (graduate level) written English skills required.
- Detailed oriented with good analytical abilities
- Able to organize multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks
- Must work both independent of supervision and with team to adhere to deadlines without prompting
Duties
- Work with faculty to ensure the development and implementation of program content to meet accreditation standards.
- Work closely with the Department Chair and Executive Accreditation Committee to create reports, collect data, etc.

- Update and confirm program materials for the department for accreditation compliance.

We are seeking highly motivated, compassionate, and energetic summer interns to help lead a Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) program with 6 to 8 teens in the Richmond/San Pablo area as part of the 2024 UCSF-UC Berkeley YPAR Summer Intern Program. With your guidance, the YPAR students will spearhead a research project related to ongoing health research at the UCSF Clear Lab. This full-time program consists of didactics, field trips to different research labs, hands-on fieldwork experience, and personalized career development with teens (ages 14 – 17) living in Richmond and the surrounding area.
Expectations
- Attending the full three-week orientation
- Availability from Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., throughout the entire 12-week program starting May 22 to August 14, 2024. Up to 1-week of off-time is allowable as long as discussed prior to the start of program. We expect interns to be available during these times, with final work schedule to come.
- Must have a valid Driver's License and clean driving record. In this position, you will be responsible for the pickup and transportation of YPAR students throughout the program as needed. Leads are expected to be well-organized and communicate frequently to students the lesson plans and expectations of each day
- Proactively preparing and reading lessons and activities
- Researching appropriate websites and resources to support the project

Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area
2024 Summer Internship in Cancer Support Services
Cancer Support Community (CSC) provides comprehensive psychosocial care and integrative therapies for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. We are one of the largest direct service cancer support organizations in the U.S., serving over 2,000 people annually. Our main center is in Walnut Creek in central Contra Costa County. We also have a satellite location in Antioch in East Contra Costa County that focuses on underserved communities. Celebrating over 30 years of nationally recognized mission delivery, the organization now offers hybrid and virtual programs.
The Cancer Support Community is offering a unique summer practicum opportunity specifically designed for a graduate student in Public Health. This practicum is perfect for individuals interested in honing their skills in data analysis, interpretation, presentation, and program evaluation. The chosen student will delve into analyzing program utilization within our organization and exploring methods for implementing evaluation measures.
Summer Practicum Requirements
- Tentative Start Dates: June 3rd through August 1st (dates flexible)
- Time commitment: 15-20 hours per week
- Position will be hybrid, most work will be done remotely, with the exception of a few CSC events and meetings.
- Must be available to come in person to our Walnut Creek location during the first week for orientation and meet with CSC staff
- Must be able to attend CSC all staff meetings (1x/month)
- Must be available to work in person at John Muir Cancer Center to support CSC’s Patient Navigator at least twice a month.
A $500 stipend is available for students upon completion of this internship.

Community Health Outreach Volunteer (CHOV)
Interested in improving the lives of people who use drugs?
Santa Clara County CHOV volunteers work with Santa Clara County Public Health Department staff to provide harm reduction services including syringe and harm reduction supply access, overdose prevention education, safer drug use education, MAT recruitment and harm reduction outreach throughout the County of Santa Clara.
CHOV workers undergo a 12 week harm reduction and outreach training and are expected to volunteer at least twice a month for at least one year after they complete their training. CHOVs are given a certificate by the county at the end of their year of service.
Join us every Wednesday from August 28 to December 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The training and certification is free with volunteer commitment.
