MPH students have impact on national public health policy

"As a result of a graduate level project, a group of three SF State MPH students (now alumni) moved the American Public Health Association (APHA) — a national organization of 25,000 members — to put forth a national policy statement titled “Confronting Police Violence as a Public Health Issue.” It will be on the agenda at the next national APHA conference in San Diego.

The document establishes a policy statement focused on law enforcement violence as a public health issue with public health and system-based strategies that reduce law enforcement violence and increase public safety for marginalized communities.

The three former students are now successful graduates. Jade Rivera (MPH, ’16) is currently coordinating the Health Metro Academy; Liz Kroboth (MPH, ’16) is teaching part-time in the Health Education B.S. program; and Emma Rubin (MPH, ’16) is working in public health in Chicago."
