Healing Arts, Spirituality & Community Organizing
Event Date:
Thursday, March 9, 2017 - 11:00am to 1:00pm
Please come and join Erika Katsky, Vivian Chavez and other faculty in our Dept. teaching H ED 455 Community Organizing and Community Building for Health in a conversation about Healing Arts, Spirituality & Community Organizing on Thursday, March 9, 2017, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at The Faculty Commons (LIB 286). Erika is a community organizer with more than 20 years experience in faith, labor, LGBT and public school communities. She began her career in New York City first at the Jewish feminist organization Ma’yan and then as an organizer at Citizen Action of New York and in California with the PICO National Network. Vivian met Erika when they were both Changemaker Fellows at the Pacific School of Religion. The intention of the event is to find ways to talk about the energy that causes people to rise-up for a spiritual, creative and multicultural understanding of social movements. Community organizing is a deeply spiritual practice of story-sharing and relationship-building that includes and goes beyond current images of direct action. Marches & protests are just one visible part of social movements.
